Jimmy Thomson: I finished the Shift course in the summer of 2021. Before the course I was at a loss, feeling directionless and without much hope for the future. During the course I became particularly interested in the practicalities of growing food for people. When the course finished I dived straight into 1 month of volunteer work as a Wwoofer and a subsequent 5 months more work at Radford Mill Farm. I am now a trainee at Fresh and Green Vegetables in Devon for 9 months of this year. I’m learning to grow vegetables for customers of a weekly, seasonal and fresh vegetable box scheme. Growing food brings me purpose and meaning: taking a major problem, industrial agriculture, and instead finding a solution, agroecology. I hope to begin a livelihood that connects food, people, nature and education. Feel free to get in touch with me at

I am currently undertaking the traineeship at:

Megan Trump: I am a shifty tenner and now work at The Vench in Lockleaze. I am collaborating on an extended project across the whole of Lockleaze; connecting up green spaces and turning them in places to grow food to nourish the community. Lockleaze is one of the top 20 most deprived areas of the UK, and has nowhere to buy fresh fruit or veg but is upon blue finger soil and surrounded by food farms! I lead two gardening groups for adults at the adventure playground (as well as running all our play and youth sessions after school and in the holidays) one for local Lockleaze residents and one for refugees. I have also begun forest school sessions in stoke park and other green spaces trying to encourage volunteers to help connect with them and maintain them. Our address is The Vench Romney Ave, Lockleaze, Bristol BS7 9TB.
